Jimmy Ogunshakin
PARTNER
Formerly a solicitor sole practitioner, trading as Mayflower Solicitors, Jimmy launched the firm in July 2008. Less than two years later, the firm has seen tremendous growth and incorporated on 1 April 2010 re-emerging as Mayflower (DCB) LLP. Jimmy is the Chief Executive Officer of the LLP.
Having graduated with an LLB (with Honours) Degree in 1992, He was admitted as a student barrister of the Bar of England & Wales (and of Lincoln’s Inn the same year). He qualified as a Solicitor in 2002.
Jimmy has also been a Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives for over 10 years.
In a career spanning almost two decades, Jimmy has gained substantial legal experience in banking, commercial and public Law; holding senior and strategic roles in a number of law firms in the UK. They include in the banking sector, Household International Inc (HFC); in the public sector, local authority legal departments such as Birmingham City Council and Leicester City Council, in the commerce and industry sector, Croner CCH and Eshcol Consulting and in private legal practice, Wragge & Co LLP, Thompsons Solicitors, Anthony Collins LLP and Newsome Vaughan LLP.
During his career, Jimmy provided advice to national and international corporate clients, FTSE 100 and AIM listed clients (banking and consumer finance); legal representation to public sector clients including local authorities, residential social landlords, charities and NGOs and businesses of all sizes. As a commercial litigation lawyer, he has legal expertise in civil litigation, employment and discrimination law, HR Advisory work and other aspects of UK labour law.
He advises on regulation matters, litigation and from time to time appears on behalf of clients in Employment Tribunals and in the County Court. He has and continues to represent clients in the EAT and the High Courts. Jimmy is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association, the Law Society of England & Wales, a Member of the Institute of Directors and retains his student membership at Lincoln’s Inn. Jimmy holds a number of directorships and serves a non-executive director to an RSL and Legal Counsel and Trustee to a faith based charity in the West Midlands.
His decision to set up a legal practice was inspired by a desire to build and provide clients with the provision of a highly personalised service delivered with refreshing vigour and a relentless determination to build a new generation team of international commercial legal advisors with a vision and commitment to providing clients with a personable but cost effective service. He is known for giving clients ‘straight-talking’ but pragmatic advice coupled with a conscientious and personable delivery.

Katie Gowans
TRAINEE SOLICITOR
Katie joined Mayflower Solicitors as a Paralegal in April 2009, following three years as a paralegal with Irwin Mitchell.
Katie brings a wealth of experience in commercial litigation and dispute resolution, specialising in group litigation.
Since joining the firm, Katie has continued to build on her legal skills by working on employment, company/commercial and property law cases. Her clients include businesses of all sizes, trade unions and individuals. Katie’s recent workload has
included working on a number of high profile employment law cases involving contentious and non-contentious issues including all forms of Discrimination, as well as HR related matters.
In addition to her legal role, Katie also has a managerial remit assisting the Partner with practice issues.
Katie commenced her training contract in September 2010.

Amiee O’Toole
PARALEGAL
Amiee joined the firm as a Paralegal on 1 December 2010 after undertaking a short summer placement. Prior to this, she graduated from Liverpool John Moore University in 2009. She went on to achieve a Distinction on her Legal Practice Course at the College of Law in Birmingham.
Since joining the firm, Amiee has gained an insight into various areas of commercial law and practice; assisting the Partner and other colleagues across the firm with a number of projects and cases ranging from
Commercial Dispute, Tax Advisory and Employment Litigation work. She now has responsibility for her own caseload. In a short space of time, Amiee has enjoyed a positive start to her legal career attending client interviews and meetings, drafting contractual documents and assisting the Head of the firm’s Employment Law Clinics at the Birmingham Central Library, where she advises members of the public on under our Legal Services Commission Employment Law Service and on a pro bono basis from time to time.
Amiee has also had the pleasure of working with international business clients as well as SME start up company director clients of the firm. Amiee is intent on building and complimenting her legal education with skills and experience she has gained working with the firm.
